Hi transition towners in Hackney. Though I live in Norfolk I visit friends with allotments and gardens in London often (used to live in Woolwich and the Oval). Living out here has provided me with the opportunity to garden just under an acre. My special interest is in growing to harvest for the so-called hungry gap. I wrote a book about it and will be coming to talk to the Rosendale allotment society on the 18th April and at the Quaker meeting house on Euston road the day after if anyone is interested in coming along. Here is a link to my website.

Hackney Orchard Project
In partnership with the London Orchard Project and Hackney Tree Nursery Transition Hackney is working towards planting some orchards in Hackney's parks.
We are having a preliminary meeting to discuss the twin tracks of the project, on Wednesday !0th February at the Pembury Tavern on Amhurst Road at 7pm.

We will be looking at planting new trees on the one hand, and mapping existing fruit trees for later harvesting and processing on the other.
Please come along if you are interested in being involved, this is a major project and will require a variety of skills including raising the money, which we hope to do using the crowd source model employed to fund The Age of Stupid, though all ideas are welcome.

The recent bad weather streched food producer supply lines, causing problems for fresh veg and milk deliveries. 'Just in time' delivery from centralised distribution centres exacerbated problems caused by harvesting delays and inaccessible roads due to thick snow.
