Clapton and Homerton local group

Group for people who live in Clapton and Homerton to discuss issues relating specifically to their local area.

Members: 25
Latest Activity: Mar 12, 2013

This group needs a leader / facilitator

If you have a few hours a week spare to coordinate the activites of the Clapton and Homerton local group please contact the site administrator and we will put your name and a link to your Ning profile here so people can contact you.

Ideally you'll be up for sitting on the odd steering group meeting too - so we're all singing off the same hymn sheet.

Anyone can put their ideas, vision, or links to relevant external content here - please do!

Everyone should be able to coordinate their meetings and events etc entirely via these pages but if you're having problems then contact me using the link above.

The Fridge and Washing Machine second-hand recycling shop on Well Street Market is to be closed. Landlords, The Church of England, have neglected to repair the roof for years and yet have imposed a 100% increase in rent. The tenant is unable to continue. He has been in dispute about the rain falling on his stock of electrical goods for too long and the landlords and their agents will not budge.    Also under threat is the Health Food Shop run George Edwards. George has used the upstairs space in his shop to store bulk wholefoods for 27 years. He breaks down his bulk goods into bags himself; EXCELLENT PRACTICE! The Church has tripled his rent and is excluding the upstairs storeroom as a separate premises. Under such harsh conditions, George will be unable to continue.

Thanks Alex,

just to let you know Transition Town Hackney's a bit of a loose affiliation of people at this stage so currently unlikely to stretch to a stall at an event :) but thanks anyway for your post, hope your event on the 20th goes well,

All the best,

Anna

Hi everyone,
I live at The George Pub in Homerton. We are a group of people for whom the old pub is our home, yet we also open it up for events. We also hope this space will be used as a resource for community. If anyone is thinking to put on an event please get in touch with me at parry.alexandra(at)gmail.com or georgianmetamorphosis(at)googlemail.com
We don't charge money for the space, only if you are making personal profit from the event.
Also...
We are holding a nightmarket here on the 20th February and we are looking for people who want to have a stall. On the night items will be able to be sold, bartered for or given away. The item might be an object, an idea or a poem...we are encouraging people to be creative about what they might want to bring to market! There will also be a cafe and live music to dance to.
Please please write to me if you are interested or you think transitions towns would be interested in having a stall here to spread the word about the groups ideas and actions.
x alex

Hello all,

if any of you have any of that precious resouce - time, to put into the protection of Lea Valley Park (to the East of Clapton and Homerton) let me know. A few of us local residents are discussing how to protect the park from encroaching development, for example the proposed housing development (4 blocks, the highest 9 stories) in the corner of the park by the canal on the Lea Bridge Rd.

All the best,

Anna
