Latest Activity: Oct 14, 2011
Presenting positive pictures and providing a discussion space for people to be inspired, proactive and positive members of our flourishing Hackney community. It’s a space for learning, sharing ideas, and finding solutions to challenges that our locality faces such as peak oil, climate change, and an unsustainable economy in ways that strengthen community.
For the fifth event we will be screening 'Robert Newmans Short History of Oil Live' filmed at Hoxton Hall. It features stand-up comedian Robert Newman getting to grips with the wars and politics of the last hundred years, from WWI through to the 2003 invasion of Iraq; but rather than adhering to the history we were fed at school, this show places oil centre stage as the cause of all commotion. This innovative history programme is based around Robert Newman's stand-up act and supported by resourceful archive sequences and stills with satirical impersonations of historical figures from Mayan priests to Archduke Ferdinand.
The screening will be followed by presentations from
Fran Bury, Sustainability Officer at Hackney Council
and
Lewis McNeill of The London Orchard Project
and a group discussion on 'Mapping food in Hackney: where do you get your food and why?'
7.00pm - Food share - bring a dish and take a little from the many dishes provided by others
8.00pm - Film screening
9.00pm - Discussion and presentations
