DESCRIPTION:Transition Hackney and Hackney Forest Garden are pleased t
 o bring you an evening all about forest gardening. Forest gardens are 
 designed to mimic forests by using different layers to provide food an
 d other resources. Vertical layers - canopy, understorey, groundcover,
  soil and root systems – are utilised, just as you would see in natu
 ral woodland, but are designed by taking into account existing conditi
 ons and choosing plants that meet the identified needs. These principl
 es can be translated to urban areas with the aim of producing food in 
 a sustainable and minimal effort system.\n \nThis event marks the end
  of a year-long course run by Hackney Forest Garden, funded by the Loc
 al Food Fund, and is an opportunity to share the learning. We will be 
 screening ‘A Forest Garden Year’ in which forest garden expert Mar
 tin Crawford leads a tour of his remarkable plot, transformed from a p
 lain field into a cornucopia of edible and functional plants that work
 s with natural processes to produce an abundance of food with a minimu
 m of effort. We will be joined by speakers from inspiring local projec
 ts – Annie Chipchase from the Hackney Forest Garden and Jo Homan fro
 m Edible Landscapes London in Finsbury Park – and participants from 
 the course will lead discussions on starting an urban forest garden by
  sharing their experiences and designs.\n \nCome along to find out mo
 re about forest gardening, get information on how you can design a for
 est garden on any scale and hear about local projects you can get invo
